About Okehampton Otters

Okehampton Otters is a swimming club situated in the heart of west Devon right by the glorious setting of the moors.

The club has enjoyed many a year of competition and has continued to fundraise for local charities. At the moment the club is bursting with members both new and old, the sudden intake has been a wonderful boost and has brought a new level of competition to the club as a whole. Training is developing into a routine for the senior squad to ensure maintained levels of fitness and ability even over the holidays but a slower pace for those just starting.

Over the many years of experience built up there have been many top-level swimmers some of which come back to the club to help in giving training sessions and development ideas. The coaches are highly trained and take different courses to enable them to have a diverse knowledge each on a specific topic; this allows key advice to be given throughout the club.

We currently compete in the North Devon Mini League although we also swim against clubs from all over Devon, Cornwall and Somerset.Being positioned where it is Okehampton is in the centre of a hub of other clubs, the nearest clubs are within 18 miles, both Crediton and Torrington. Outside of this there are many other clubs such as Exeter and Barnstable.

With the ever increasing number of members and commitments placed on the club the club is always looking for help,

OTHER WAYS TO HELP

Ever noticed how little jobs at home just seem to get done all by themselves? Well apparently this is the work of fairies. Okehampton Otters Swimming Club is supported by its very own fairies who discretely get things done whilst nobody is looking.

There are many other ways in which these fairies help out from time to time. Whether it's polishing our trophies, taking split times at galas or assisting at one of our social events – if there's a way in which to ease the load on others, they always seem to offer their help. We would like to thank them for what they do, but they invariably disappear before we've had a chance.

The club often finds that parents have special skills or access to resources that are of value to the club. This could include photocopying, catering, bookkeeping, accountancy, being able to drive a mini bus, carpentry skills, welding and metal working. If you possess any of the above skills then the club may need them from time to time to repair club equipment and use you for additional expertise where needed. Please let the club secretary know if you have a useful skill or resource.
